Washinomiya Shrine in Kuki, reputedly one of the Kanto region's oldest shrines, is the real-world model for the Hiiragi family's shrine in the anime "Lucky Star" (Raki Suta) and is widely regarded as the birthplace of modern anime pilgrimage (seichi junrei) after fans flooded it following the 2007 series. Pilgrims still leave illustrated ema votive plaques featuring the cast, and the calm approach and spacious grounds reward an unhurried visit.
