Akechidaira is a shelf of ground partway up the Irohazaka switchbacks with a car park and a ground-level lookout over the valley. The ropeway up to the upper observation deck — the vantage that frames Kegon Falls, Lake Chuzenji and the cone of Mount Nantai together — is suspended for reconstruction from 16 January 2026 until 31 August 2027, reopening September 2027, so that framed view is not available on any trip before then; the plateau and its car park remain reachable by road.
