Gunma · Kanto
月夜野ほたるの里 runs a 1.9 km promenade through what Minakami Town's own tourism association calls the largest firefly habitat in the northern Kanto region, right beside the Jomo-Kogen Shinkansen station — a rare case of a wild firefly population within walking distance of a bullet-train platform. Three species live along the path: Genji, Heike and the smaller kuromado (黒窓) firefly, and volunteer guides from the local preservation society work the 8-9pm viewing window through the season to point out where they are flying.
