Yamanohana

山ノ鼻

Gunma · Kanto

The western gateway to Ozegahara at the foot of the Hatomachi-toge descent, a cluster of mountain huts, a campground and the Yamanohana Visitor Center that marks where the forest opens onto the marsh. It is the main rest, water-refill and information hub before hikers step onto the open bog, and the trailhead for climbs up Mount Shibutsu.

Why we picked it

Most visitors treat it only as a pass-through checkpoint, missing its small botanical study garden and the quiet riverside spot where the Kawakami-gawa meets the marsh.

Admission
No entry fee to Oze or the Yamanohana area. The Yamanohana Visitor Center is free. Separate costs: trailhead parking is paid, public toilets ask ¥100 per use, and mountain huts/campground charge their own rates.
