Hitsujiyama Park (Shibazakura no Oka)

羊山公園(芝桜の丘)

Saitama · Kanto

A 17,600m² hillside in Chichibu planted with over 400,000 shibazakura (moss phlox) in 9-10 varieties, blooming pink/white/purple from early April to early May with Mount Buko as backdrop.

Why we picked it

Genuinely famous within Japan — arguably the prefecture's most photographed seasonal sight — but almost unknown to international travellers: a hillside carpeted in shibazakura each spring, with Mt. Buko rising behind it.
