Tokyo · Kanto
A small Inari shrine in the back streets behind Oshiage, held together by its sacred ginkgo — the oldest tree in Sumida ward at over 500 years, and the source of the name: a branch carried off in a storm is said to have lodged in the ground here and grown. The trunk was burnt black in the 1945 firebombing and leafed out again, which is why locals still come to it.
