Tokyo · Kanto
One of Tokyo's four surviving Edo-period feudal lord gardens, built from 1678 on reclaimed Tokyo Bay land as the residence of Okubo Tadamoto. Rebuilt and donated to the city by the Imperial Household after the 1923 earthquake destroyed the original structures, it centers on a pond with four islands ringed by skyscrapers. Best timed for late April (wisteria) and November-December (autumn foliage).
