Habushiura Beach

羽伏浦海岸

Tokyo · Kanto

A roughly 6.5km stretch of white sand beach on the east coast of Niijima Island (Izu Islands), backed by dramatic white volcanic cliffs and known for emerald-green water with consistent, powerful Kuroshio-current swell. One of Japan's premier surf breaks, hosting national championships and the annual Tokyo Governor's Cup; designated one of the "New Tokyo Hundred Scenic Spots."

Why it's hidden

World-class among surfers but little known to general travelers: no rail access, reachable only by ferry/jetfoil or small plane from Tokyo, overshadowed by closer/better-known Izu Oshima, and swimming is prohibited (surfing/bodyboarding only) — keeps it off mainstream beach itineraries.
