Kanmangafuchi Abyss

憾満ヶ淵

Tochigi · Kanto

The Kanmangafuchi path is a free public trail with no gate or opening time, following a gorge cut by the Daiya through lava from Mount Nantai. Along it stands a row of stone Jizo — locally called the Bake-jizo, because the count is said never to come out the same twice — many of them moss-covered and missing heads after a flood swept the row in 1902.

Why we picked it

Many travelers focus on more popular temples and shrines, overlooking this peaceful spot.
