Ginza is a public district with no admission — the streets are free to walk at any hour, and the individual shops and galleries price separately. Chuo-dori closes to traffic on weekend afternoons and becomes a pedestrian promenade. The quarter was rebuilt in brick after the 1872 fire, which is why its blocks run wide and straight, unlike most of central Tokyo.
