Izu Oshima Geo-Park Stratified Cliff

A 600 m wall of beautifully banded volcanic-ash layers — nicknamed the "Baumkuchen" — exposed when a road was cut through the flank of Izu Oshima in 1953. Each stripe records a separate eruption across roughly 15,000 years.
