Lake Tanzawa (Tanzawako)

丹沢湖

Kanagawa · Kanto

A reservoir lake formed by the Miho Dam (completed 1978) in Yamakita, at the confluence of the Kawauchi, Kurokura and Yozukuri rivers, ranked among Japan's 100 Best Dam Lakes; surrounded by mountains with a driving/cycling course and campsites.

Why it's hidden

A scenic western-Tanzawa base for canoeing, fishing and mountain views that rarely appears on English-language Kanagawa itineraries, unlike Hakone or Kamakura.
