Shiofune Kannon-ji
塩船観音寺Tokyo · Kanto
Shiofune Kannon-ji is a hillside temple in Ome at the western edge of Tokyo, whose grounds sit in a natural bowl said to resemble a boat — the origin of its name. A thatched main hall and a Nio gate stand at the base of the bowl, a large Kannon statue looks down from the ridge, and a footpath rings the slope above the terraces. The terraces are planted with azaleas that flower from mid-April into early May, and hydrangeas follow through June.
