Hakone Ropeway
箱根ロープウェイKanagawa · Kanto
The Hakone Ropeway runs 9:00 to 17:00 from February to November and 9:00 to 16:15 in December and January, with a flat fare of ¥2,000 one way or ¥3,000 return for an adult, and it is covered by the Hakone Freepass. Annual maintenance closes half the line at a time in midwinter, with free substitute buses over the closed section. The line runs from Sounzan over the Owakudani vents to Togendai on Lake Ashi.

- The Owakudani section also suspends at short notice on volcanic gas readings; as of May 2026 the line runs normally at Alert Level 1, but the Owakudani hiking course is closed and the Owakudani Nature Study Path needs advance online reservation plus ¥800.
