Fukuroda Falls

袋田の滝

Ibaraki · Kanto

A 120m-tall, four-tiered cascading waterfall in Daigo town, ranked among Japan's three most celebrated waterfalls (with Nachi and Kegon). Viewed via an observation tunnel and elevator-accessed upper platform; framed by dramatic momiji foliage in autumn and partial ice-falls in winter, with night illuminations during peak seasons.

Why we picked it

Not hidden in the traditional sense — it is Ibaraki's single most iconic natural landmark, a four-tiered cascade that changes character with every season. Hidden only in that few foreign travellers reach Ibaraki at all.
