Hoppy Street (Hoppy-dōri) is a lantern-lit strip of some thirty open-front izakaya just west of Sensō-ji, named for the cheap Hoppy beer-substitute its stalls have poured since the postwar years. Locals crowd its plastic stools from early afternoon for stewed beef tendon (nikomi), grilled skewers and a nostalgic Shōwa-era buzz.
