Kurosuke's House (Totoro Forest, Sayama Hills)

クロスケの家(トトロの森)

Saitama · Kanto

A 100+ year-old farmhouse, storehouse, and tea factory (all nationally registered tangible cultural properties) serving as the visitor hub for the Sayama Hills — the satoyama landscape that inspired the setting of My Neighbor Totoro — preserved through a citizen land-trust movement (Totoro no Furusato Fund) since 1990.

Why it's hidden

A genuine hidden gem — a real preserved satoyama forest with deep pop-culture resonance, run by a grassroots trust, with limited public access (reservation required, only open 3 days/week) rather than a commercial attraction.
