At 1,591m elevation in Katashina Village, this is the main Gunma-side trailhead into the Ozegahara Marshland — Japan's largest high-altitude wetland, famous for its mizubasho (Asian skunk cabbage) bloom (mid-May-mid-June) and Nikko kisuge day-lilies (mid-July) across a boardwalk-crossed plain backed by Mount Shibutsu.
