Suigo Sawara Ayame Park

Suigo Sawara Ayame Park

水郷佐原あやめパーク

Chiba · Kanto

Suigo Sawara Ayame Park is an eight-hectare water garden in Katori, Chiba, laid out with islands, channels and arched bridges in the style of the old Tone River delta. Paths cross the water on foot, and flat-bottomed sappa boats carry visitors along the interior waterways. The planting is staged through the year — wisteria, then irises, lotus, roses and winter narcissus — and admission is free from December to March.

Why we picked it

It sits well outside the Sawara merchant townscape that draws day-trippers, and is reachable only by car or an infrequent local bus.
