Kita-in Temple
喜多院Saitama · Kanto
Kita-in is a Tendai Buddhist temple in southern Kawagoe, founded in 830 by the priest Ennin. After a fire destroyed most of the complex in January 1638, Tokugawa Iemitsu had buildings moved here from Edo Castle to serve as the guest hall and study, so the interiors shown today include the room in which Iemitsu was born and the chamber of his nurse Kasuga no Tsubone. The grounds also hold the Gohyaku Rakan, a city-designated site of stone arhat figures counted among Japan's three great rakan groups.
