Tamatsukuri Onsen
玉造温泉Shimane · Chugoku
One of Japan's oldest hot spring towns, recorded in the 733 Izumo Fudoki and praised by Heian-era writer Sei Shonagon in The Pillow Book as one of the three great onsens. Traditional ryokan line the Tamayu River in a compact resort valley about 10km southwest of Matsue.

- The onsen town and its riverside foot baths are free. The public day-bath Tamatsukuri Onsen Yu~Yu charges ¥600 adults (junior-high+), ¥300 elementary, infants free.
