Karato Market (Shimonoseki)

Shimonoseki's main fish market on the Kanmon Strait, famous for fugu (pufferfish) and known nationally for its weekend 'Iki-iki Bakan-gai' event when stalls sell fresh sushi and sashimi to eat on the spot. Visitors buy pieces individually from competing counters and eat overlooking the water. It is a working retail-and-wholesale market, not a tourist replica.
