Naramachi

奈良町

Nara · Kansai

Naramachi is the old merchant quarter south of Nara Park, a grid of narrow lanes lined with preserved wooden townhouses now holding shops, cafes and small museums. Walking it is free and the streets never close; the individual houses and museums open to the public charge separately. It is an easy add-on to Nara Park rather than a separate journey.

Why it's hidden

Many travelers focus on Nara's famous temples and miss the quaint atmosphere of this historic neighborhood.
