Izushi Castle Town / Shinkoro Clock Tower

出石城下町・辰鼓楼

Hyogo · Kansai

A grid-planned Edo-era castle town in Toyooka City known as 'the Little Kyoto of Tajima', centered on the 1871 Shinkoro wooden clock tower — Japan's oldest still-standing clock tower. A National Important Preservation District (2007) and Western Japan's leading soba destination, with ~50 restaurants serving Izushi-style cold soba since 1706.

Why it's hidden

Overshadowed by Kinosaki Onsen 30 min away and Kyoto proper; genuinely uncrowded castle-town streetscape with a unique regional soba culture.
