Hanamikoji Street
花見小路Kyoto · Kansai
Hanamikoji is the main street of Gion, running south from Shijo past a long row of wooden machiya teahouses and restaurants, and it is a working entertainment district rather than a preserved one. It is free and open at all hours, six minutes' walk from Gion-Shijo Station. Geiko and maiko do pass along it on the way to appointments, but the side alleys off it are private property and photographing people there is restricted.
