Yoshino Mikumari Shrine sits high on Mount Yoshino, dedicated to the deity of water and surrounded by dense forest, its Momoyama-period buildings arranged around a small courtyard well away from the crowds lower down the mountain. The cherry trees of the upper slopes flower in mid to late April, later than those at the base.
