Yoshikien is a compact garden on the site of a former sub-temple of Kofuku-ji, laid out in three distinct parts on a hillside beside the Yoshiki river: a pond garden, a moss garden under maples, and a tea-ceremony garden with a thatched hut. It shares a wall with the far busier Isui-en next door but keeps a fraction of its visitors, and the moss section in particular is often empty. The whole circuit takes about twenty minutes.
