Hokkaido
A Gothic Catholic church on the Motomachi slopes, rebuilt in 1924 after fire and crowned with a distinctive rooster weathervane. Its most treasured feature is an ornate altarpiece donated by Pope Benedict XV, unusual among Japan's churches. It stands within a few metres of the Russian Orthodox and Anglican churches, the cluster that gives Motomachi its skyline of three faiths.
