The former British Consulate served from 1913 until 1934 and now operates as the Museum of Hakodate History (Port Opening Memorial Hall), with restored consular rooms, an exhibit on the port's opening to foreign trade and an English tea room. The colonial-style building sits at the top of Motoizaka slope with a clear line down to the harbour. Its walled rose garden flowers from June.
