Osaka · Kansai
Founded in 701, this Shingon temple in the 'Oku-Kawachi' hills holds Japan's oldest-designated National Treasure main hall (Kondo) and a National Treasure Nyoirin Kannon statue unveiled only two days each year; the grounds also hold the mausoleum of Kusunoki Masatsura. The maples around the halls turn vivid red in late November.
