Sapporo Teine Ski Area

Sapporo Teine Ski Area

サッポロテイネ

Hokkaido

Sapporo Teine rises straight off the city's western edge in two linked halves — the gentler Olympia zone at the bottom and the steeper Highland zone above it, which hosted alpine events at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics. From the upper lifts the run faces back over Ishikari Bay, so the whole city and the sea sit in front of you on the way down.

Why we picked it

Thirty-odd minutes from central Sapporo, it lets a city stay include real skiing without a resort transfer or an overnight.
