Inariyama Shrine (Yanai Inari Shrine)
稲荷山神社（柳井稲荷神社）Yamaguchi · Chugoku
稲荷山神社, known locally as 柳井稲荷神社 (Yanai Inari Shrine), climbs a run of red torii gates on a hill above Yanai, with more than 500 cherry trees planted around the approach and grounds. In April the trees bloom together into what the town's own tourism copy calls a 'cherry-coloured cloud', with the Seto Inland Sea framed through the blossoms and gates. It is not to be confused with the far larger, famous Motonosumi Inari Shrine on the Nagato coast — a different shrine in a different part of Yamaguchi, distinguished here at the founder's own request.
