Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

嵐山竹林

Kyoto · Kansai

The bamboo path is a free public route with no ticket gates and no closing time, which is why arriving at first light is the only reliable way to see it without crowds. It runs a few hundred metres between Tenryu-ji's north gate and the Okochi Sanso approach, with the culms closing overhead so the light on the path stays green and low.

Why we picked it

Many travelers focus on the more popular attractions in Kyoto, overlooking this peaceful natural escape.
