A narrow, fast-flowing strait between the Kure mainland and Kurahashi Island, legendarily said to have been cut open in a single day by 12th-century warlord Taira no Kiyomori. A vivid red spiral bridge (Ondo Ohashi) arcs over the channel, framed by hillside parks that turn pink with cherry blossoms in spring. Best timed for late March-early April (cherry blossoms).
