Settsukyo Gorge

摂津峡

Osaka · Kansai

A granite river gorge along the Akutagawa River in northern Takatsuki, featuring unusual rock formations, small waterfalls, and a cherry-blossom park at its entrance; a local hiking and river-play spot largely unknown to international visitors. Best timed for early April (sakura), summer (river play), mid-November (koyo).

Why we picked it

Overshadowed by nearby Kyoto and central Osaka, it is used mainly by local hikers and families rather than tourists.
