Miho Shrine

美保神社

Shimane · Chugoku

Head shrine for roughly 3,000 Ebisu shrines across Japan, standing at the harbor of the fishing town of Mihonoseki on the tip of the Shimane Peninsula. Its twin-honden Taisha-zukuri main hall (built 1813) is a National Important Cultural Property.

Why we picked it

Enshrines Okuninushi's wife and son (as opposed to Izumo Taisha's Okuninushi himself), in a genuinely remote fishing port most Izumo-focused trip plans never reach — a real gap outside the Izumo Taisha cluster.
