Kyuan-ji is a Shingon temple in the hills above Ikeda, north of Osaka, with a national-treasure-grade Kamakura gate and a pond garden below the main hall. Around a thousand hydrangea shrubs are planted through the precinct. In early summer the temple floats cut hydrangea heads on the water of its pond, which is what most visitors come for.
