Hiroshima · Chugoku
A former Edo-period port on Osaki-Shimojima Island (Kure city) that thrived as a wind/tide-waiting harbor on the western shipping route. Designated a nationally Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1994, it retains merchant houses, a Taisho-era public bathhouse, and narrow lanes largely unchanged since reclamation-era construction.
