Goryokaku Park is a star-shaped Western-style fort built in the 1860s, its geometry best appreciated from the adjacent Goryokaku Tower, which gives panoramic views over the moat and the city of Hakodate. Around 1,600 cherry trees fill the earthworks and bloom in late April and early May.
