Kosan-ji Temple (Hill of Hope)

A Jodo Shinshu temple complex on Ikuchijima built 1936-1970 by industrialist Kozo Kanamoto in memory of his mother, styled after famous temples across Japan (its gate echoes Nikko's Yomeimon). Its standout feature is Miraishin no Oka ('Hill of Hope'), a 5,000m² landscaped garden of pure white Carrara marble (~3,000 tons) overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.
