Ohara’s Rural Beauty

大原の田舎の美

Kyoto · Kansai

Ohara is a farming valley in the hills north of Kyoto, terraced with rice fields between old farmhouses, with Sanzen-in and the other Ohara temples strung along its slopes. There is no rail access: Kyoto Bus 17 runs from Kyoto Station and takes about an hour. The valley is open country and free to walk at any time, though the individual farms, shops and temples keep their own hours.

Why it's hidden

Many travelers flock to Kyoto's famous temples and shrines, overlooking the tranquil beauty of its rural outskirts.
