Kishiwada Castle Hachijin-no-Niwa Garden

岸和田城 八陣の庭

Osaka · Kansai

A circular dry-landscape garden within Kishiwada Castle's honmaru, designed in 1953 by celebrated landscape architect Mirei Shigemori around a military 'eight-formation' (hachijin) motif; designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty and best viewed from the castle keep above.

Why we picked it

Overshadowed by Kishiwada's famous autumn Danjiri Matsuri crowds, this quiet Shigemori-designed garden draws only a fraction of the festival's visitors.
