Arashiyama Sagano Scenic Railway

嵐山嵯峨野観光鉄道

Kyoto · Kansai

The Sagano Romantic Train runs along the Hozu river gorge between Arashiyama and Kameoka, at ¥880 one way for an adult. It does not run all year: the line shuts completely from late December to the end of February, and Wednesday is its regular no-service day outside the peak seasons. Check the official monthly operating calendar before building a day around it, because Wednesdays do run during Golden Week, the spring and summer holidays and the autumn foliage season.

Why we picked it

Many travelers focus on the more famous attractions in Arashiyama and overlook this scenic railway.
