Aikoku Station

Aikoku Station

愛国駅

Hokkaido

Aikoku Station is a former station of the national Hiroo Line in southern Obihiro, kept as a transport memorial hall since the line closed in 1987. The building displays tickets, photographs and panels on the history of the line, and a steam locomotive stands outside on a preserved length of track. Its name means land of love, and the ticket printed from here to Kofuku Station became a national craze in the 1970s.

Why it's hidden

The origin half of the famous ticket pairing, but a plain trackside building most people drive past on the way to the more photographed station eight kilometres further south.
