Chihaya Castle Ruins

千早城跡

Osaka · Kansai

A mountain fortress built by Kusunoki Masashige in the early 1330s on the slopes of Mount Kongo, famed for withstanding a prolonged siege during the Kenmu Restoration; now a National Historic Site reachable only via a hiking trail, with stone steps at the old Otemaguchi entrance and a small shrine at the ruins.

Why it's hidden

Located in Chihayaakasaka, Osaka's only village, and accessible solely on foot with almost no English signage, it draws hikers rather than sightseers.
