Ikeda Wine Castle

A European-style 'castle' on a hill in Tokachi's Ikeda Town, home to Japan's first municipal winery. Built in 1974 after the town turned to grape cultivation to survive a 1950s crop-failure crisis, it produces cold-climate wines and brandy and houses an underground aging cellar open to visitors. Best timed for september-October during the grape harvest.
