Hokkaido
A quirky park in the former coal-mining town of Ashibetsu, built in 1990 to recreate scenes from 'Anne of Green Gables' -- including a replica Green Gables farmhouse -- as a bid to revive the town's fortunes. Now free to enter, it survives as an atmospheric, half-abandoned curiosity and sister-city tribute to Charlottetown, PEI.
