Ishidake Observatory

石岳展望台

Nagasaki · Kyushu

A 191m hilltop deck giving a 360-degree panorama over the densely clustered Kujukushima islands to the west and Sasebo city and port to the east. The opening scene of the Hollywood film 'The Last Samurai' was shot from this ridge.

Why it's hidden

Most visitors head to the busier Tenkaiho platform nearby, leaving this equally spectacular deck reached by a short forest walk almost empty, especially at sunset.
