Nagata Inakahama Beach

永田いなか浜

Kagoshima · Kyushu

Nagata Inakahama is a broad beach of coarse pale sand on Yakushima and one of Japan's most important loggerhead turtle nesting sites. Because of that the beach is closed to the public between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM from 1 May to 30 September, through the nesting and hatching season. It is free at all other times, and the local bus stops at the beach itself.

Why we picked it

Mainstream travelers often overlook this beach in favor of more popular destinations like Kobe or Himeji.
