Nagano · Chubu
This retention pond beside the Sai River in Azumino is one of inland Nagano's main whooper-swan (hakucho) wintering spots, with the swans gathering against a backdrop of the snow-capped Northern Alps. The birds arrive from roughly late autumn and stay through winter into early spring, then depart, leaving the pond as an ordinary riverside water body the rest of the year. It is an open, free outdoor viewing point favored by photographers. Best timed for winter (Nov-Mar).
